Nutty Apple Crisp

Submitted by: Anna Kipps

The nut flavors in this apple crisp give it a more rich, bold flavor than most apple crisps have. Its very delicious!

Prep Time: 1 hour total for preparation and baking.
Serving Size: 6-8
Ingredients
  • 4-5 Large Tart Apples(Granny Smith work well)
  • ¾ Cup Brown Sugar
  • 1 Tsp Honey
  • ½ Tsp. Lemon Juice
  • ¼ Cup Chestnut tea
  • 1 Teaspoon Cinnamon
  • 1 Tsp Rum
  • ¼ Cup White Flour
  • ¼ Cup Whole Wheat Flour
  • ¼ Cup Chestnut Flour
  • ¼ Cup Quick Oats
  • ½ cup Chopped Nuts (chestnuts, hazlenuts or pecans are best)
  • Pinch Salt
  • 1 stick Butter at room temp.
Directions
Preheat oven to 375 F. In a medium baking dish, whisk together ¼ cup brown sugar, tea, honey, lemon juice, rum, and half the cinnamon. Peel and core the apples, then cut them into small slices. Add the apples to the tea mixture, and toss them till lightly coated. In a separate bowl, add flours, oats, salt, the remaining sugar, remaining cinnamon and butter. Mash it all together with a fork or pastry cutter. It should look somewhat crumbly. Sprinkle the crumble mixture over the apples. Bake in the oven for about 40-45 minutes.
