Nutty Apple Crisp
The nut flavors in this apple crisp give it a more rich, bold flavor than most apple crisps have. Very delicious!
1 h 2Ingredients
- 4-5 large tart apples (Granny Smith work well)
 - 0/2 c. brown sugar
 - 1 tsp. honey
 - 1/2 tsp. lemon juice
 - 1 tsp. loose chestnut tea
 - 1/2 c. hot water
 - 1 tsp. cinnamon
 - 1 tsp. rum
 - 1/2 c. all-purpose flour
 - 1/2 c. whole wheat flour
 - 1/2 c. chestnut flour (or almond if you can't find chestnut)
 - 1/2 c. quick oats
 - 1/2 c. chopped nuts (chestnuts, hazelnuts, or pecans are best)
 - pinch salt
 - 1 stick butter, room temp.

Directions
Brew tea in water and steep 5 min. Strain and allow tea to cool. Measure out 1/4 c.
Preheat oven to 375°F. In a medium baking dish, whisk together 1/2 c. brown sugar, 1/4 c. brewed tea, honey, lemon juice, rum, and 1/2 tsp. cinnamon. Peel and core the apples, then slice thinly. Add the apples to the tea mixture and toss until lightly coated. In a separate bowl, add flours, oats, salt, the remaining sugar, remaining cinnamon, and butter. Mash it all together with a fork or pastry cutter. It should look somewhat crumbly. Sprinkle the crumble mixture over the apples. Bake in the oven for about 40-45 min.
