Barbegrill Sauce

Try for any grilled meat. Delicious on chicken. Try brushing the chicken first with lemon juice, then this sauce.

  • 1/4-1/2 c. very strong brewed gunpowder tea, strained
  • 1/4 c. hoisin sauce
  • 1/2 c. catsup
  • 1/4-1/2 c. honey
  • 2 cloves garlic, chopped
  • 2 scallions, chopped
  • 1 tbsp. ginger root, grated
  • 2 tbsp. soy sauce
  • 1/2 tsp. sesame oil
  • You may adjust the honey and tea amounts to your preference. More tea makes a thinner sauce.


Mix all ingredients and heat in a small saucepan until smooth. Do not boil. Allow to cool, then chill overnight in the refrigerator to blend the flavors.

Prep time: 15 min. Chill time: overnight
