Gunpowder Baked Beans
A different take on the traditional picnic dish.10 h 2
- 1 tbsp. gunpowder tea
- 2 c. boiling water
- 1 lb. dry great northern beans
- 1/2 c. molasses
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1 c. chopped onion
- 1 tsp. dry mustard
- 1/4 tsp. black pepper
- 1/4 lb. salt pork, diced
- 1/4 c. brown sugar
Brew tea in boiling water. Steep 5 min., then strain.
Rinse beans well. Cover with cold water and soak overnight. In the morning, drain and rinse beans and put in a crockpot. Add all other ingredients including the strained Gunpowder tea. Add enough water to cover. Cook on low all day. Stir well before serving.
