Hojicha Fried Tofu

Serving Size:
  • 1 Block extra firm tofu, pressed
  • 4 tsp Hojicha
  • 2 C Water
  • 1 Tbs Soy sauce
  • 1 tsp ground ginger (or substitute with fresh ginger)
  • 2 Tbs Olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
Bring water to a boil in a small saucepan. Add the tea leaves and steep for 3-4 minutes. Add the soy sauce and ginger. Slice the tofu into 6 patties. Place the tofu patties in a shallow dish. Pour the tea mixture over the tofu and marinate for at least 10 minutes (the longer, the better). If the marinade does not fully cover the tofu, flip them over at the halfway point. Heat the oil in a nonstick pan. Add the tea leaves and tofu. Fry the tofu on each side until crispy and golden brown. Season to taste. Serve with rice and vegetables.
